9:06 PM/ October - November 2007 / Galleri S.E. / Bergen, Norway

Galeri s.e., Bergen, Norway, is pleased to present 9:06 PM by Richard Pasquarelli, his  first solo exhibition with the gallery. Newspaper headlines; kidnappings, psycho killers, the fall of the Catholic church, forensic TV shows, mystery novels, crime scene investigations, suicides, and abandoned cars. These subjects and our collective preoccupation with them and the ways in which they reflect our personal fears and insecurities, loneliness, and disconnectedness is a commonly explored in much of Pasquarelli's work. In this series of paintings, Pasquarelli focuses on a moment in time, 9:06 pm, after dusk but before night. The works explore the realm of dark shadows, suburban hush, and whispered violence, challenging the notion of home as safe haven. Each image evokes its own story, but taken together, the works may form a narrative, connected by the viewer’s own experience, real or imagined. The viewer is drawn to mentally and physically into the paintings as a witness and observer.

The sleek, crisp paintings are a counterpoint to the mysterious and ambiguous images, which are based on Pasquarelli's own photographs; the highly polished surface and subtle colors are meant to entice the viewer, but leave a lingering sense of discomfort.
